The missions and the preliminary plan
The missions and the preliminary plan of the center are as follows.
- To facilitate top researchers at different departments to work together for developing leading interdisciplinary research studies related to the enabling technology of constructing RFID systems and applications. (The details of research projects are available upon demand.)
- To provide interdisciplinary education program in CS/EE/ME/IELM (Engineering). To kick start, we can leverage our current bachelor and master program in Computer Science and Information Technology by introducing topic courses on the construction and testing RF applications. The center will also facilitate seeking the support from the education authorities, for example the Ministry of Education of China. We also plan to host several short-term activities to improve the communication and exchange between local and international students.
- To take this center as a collective HKUST university platform to reach out funding agencies and industrial partners in Hong Kong, China, Europe: “Innovation and Technology Fund”, “FP7 of the European Union”, 863/973/NSFC funding in China, Sino Software Research Institute. We also plan to invite renowned researchers to visit HKUST and explore collaboration by seeking support from the German/Hong Kong Joint Research Scheme, K.C. Wong Education Foundation, Lee Hysan Foundation, and Croucher Foundation.
- To serve as an important medium to demonstrate the advance of HKUST in R&D. We plan to organize a number of R&D summits and invite outstanding scientists, experts, and officers from key organizations and authorities to evaluate our developed technologies. The exhibition and demonstration will effectively promote and market our R&D achievements.
